SHEILA SIMM

Sheila Simm

I first became involved with show dogs in 1978 with the purchase of an Afghan Hound. Over the next few years two more joined the household.

Pharaoh Hounds became part of the family in 1979. I bred my first litter 26 yrs ago in 1983. I mated Ch Furnwood Sondra Of Ezhar to Ch Leetbank Imset keeping a male Ezhar Invincible winner of several Res CC's He unfortunately was one of those PHs that never seemed to put weight on so he went to live with a friend. Sondra's next litter in 1986 was to Serafin Ra-Setech from this litter we kept a bitch Ezhar Sheila's Cottage, she never quite made it to Champion like her sister Ch E Early Mist At Barab but accumulated 2 CCs and 6 Res CCs including BIS at the PHC championship show in 1989 Panda went on to have two litters for us producing Six CC winners including Ch E Well To Do, Crufts BOB winner & Int Ch E Aldaniti and the history making bitch E Rag Trade who in 1994 became the first PH to have a litter by AI. We imported seamen from the outstanding Male Ch Int Ch Imerat Paroo of the Netherlands. This litter turned out to be the most successful litter of Pharaoh Hounds ever bred in the UK producing five CC winners and four UK Champions, accumulating 32 CCs between them.

Ch E The Colonel Is the boy we kept and he became one of the most well known PHs appearing on TV and being used as the example of the breed in a Dog Encyclopedia. He also holds the record for the oldest PH to win a CC at 11yrs 4 month. His brother Ch E The Duke sired the only PH to win an all breed Championship show in the UK 'Alia' is still here with us at the age of 13 1/2 yrs old.

We had five more litters over the years producing Champions and international Champions who are happy healthy hounds. In 2004 I decided to stop breeding and looked for someone to take over the now well know affix EZHAR. I approached Annakarin and Mathias Whalgren who were delighted to take on the task of continuing the breeding I started so long ago.

We have not been let down and Ezhar Hounds are now a common site in the show ring all over Scandinavia and are accomplished in the world of Obedience, Agility and now freestyle to music.

I have also owned and shown Ibizan Hounds since 1983. Including successfully campaigning the well known Ch Paran Oregano, Crufts BOB winner, Bred by Mrs B Stoneham.

I have made up Champions in both Pharaoh Hounds and Ibizan Hounds and award Challenge Certificates in both breeds.

I have been a big part in the education of Pharaoh Hound judges in the UK organizing and given seminars on Pharaoh Hounds and have sat on the assessors panel for the Kennel Clubs Judges Working Party exam's.

I am at present Vice President of The Pharaoh Hound Club. I was Secretary for seven years. I am Editor of 'PHARAOH' the clubs annual magazine and webmaster for the clubs web site.

I am now retired from breeding dogs and intend to campaign my new Swedish import 'Ezhar The Colonels Legacy' when he arrives in November 2009.

I also enjoy the company of my Bengal Cats. I have owned them since 1997 and breed Spotted and Marble cats in Brown and Snow.
